How to Manage your Menopause

Updated: Oct 18, 2021

In other less youth-idolising cultures a woman maturing is embraced and respected... emerging stronger and self aware. But most women going through the menopause do not feel like that. Like any teen, lots of women fear this coming of age. Yet like puberty it is a phase to ride through and manage. It takes self work... self love, self awareness, self patience (and patience with others lol).

Menopause is a different journey for every women and what works for each women is a fine balance of trial and error. But its doesn’t have to take over your life. You may choose to manage symptoms through lifestyle changes and maybe even hormone support (through a professional of course). The easy tick list is: Relaxation, Nutrition, Exercise, Sleep.

RELAXATION

Stress actually escalates menopause symptoms, so take time out for yourself. Take time everyday to do what relaxes for you... read, sing, dance, socialise, listen to podcasts, draw, cook, meditate, have a long bath etc.

Reflexology has high results in lowering stress and rebalancing hormones. Find out more here: https://www.headtotoeharmony.co.uk/post/what-is-reflexology

NUTRITION

Here is some guidance on diet from nutritionist expert Liz Earle: https://lizearlewellbeing.com/how-to-look-after-your-hormones/

SLEEP

EXERCISE

Not only does exercise improve your health, but it also increases your mood, improves sleep, reduces stress/anxiety etc. What you choose depends on your fitness levels, which can be built up. Regular daily brisk waking, yoga, running, classes, dancing, swimming... do what you enjoy.

ALL FOUR ELEMENTS

I recommend the book by TV doctor Dr Chatterjee called The Four Pillars for lifestyle tips on eating, sleeping, movement and relaxing: The 4 Pillar Plan: How to Relax, Eat, Move and Sleep Your Way to a Longer, Healthier Life https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0241303559/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_irLiFb7V7MKT1
